Responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the road network across the UK, National Highways have overall responsibility to enhance the country’s infrastructure. Their main objectives include operational management, investment and improvement, safety, environmental and innovation & technology. With a focus on providing their staff with the best working environment assets such as the Woodlands Building, Bedford become important facilities to house their most important resource, their staff.

National Highways as sitting tenant were responsible for the total building compliance and post intrusive survey had the requirement for a multi-trade remedial project to be completed on the roof level of the facility.
These works included the safe setup of a working scaffold and goods hoist that spanned across the 4-storey high building inclusive of debris netting and a temporary handrail system. SOLJET’s main scope of works included the installation of trace heating to all mechanical pipework, introduction of a new high spec lagging system to all ductwork and pipework inclusive of bird netting for additional protection. Electrically SOLJET were required to provide new LED safety lighting to the roof area and provide additional lightning protection across the entire perimeter. Finally SOLJET were responsible for the fabrication and installation of a permanent fall protection system.
All works were completed ahead of programme and within the original National Highways Budget leaving the Woodlands Facility full compliant as they awaited the return of staff members post pandemic.
