The Problem

SOLJET were appointed by Integral to convert the 1st floor of the Medical Centre for the incoming department “Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB)”. FTB are a modern mental health service offering support, care and treatment for all 0-25s through one organisation offering patients the right support at the right time.

The Solution

The works were procured under JCT Design and Build contract conditions and involved the reconfiguration of an unused 1st floor area of the existing building which was built under the BaS LIFT procurement initiative.

In total 31 new areas were formed and repurposed to meet the needs of FTB, their staff and patients. These areas included new offices, staff welfare rooms, medical offices, assessment and consultation rooms, observation areas, new service risers, physical examination suits and a mixture of new stores and utilities.

The project included isolation, full strip out and demolition of existing areas, newly installed Mechanical and Electrical services including lighting, small power, data and specialist LV distribution requirements as well as HVAC, HCWS and specialist outlets throughout.

Internal fit out works included new ceilings, walls and floors with partitions created to form new rooms as per the new fire strategy plan. Finishes were agreed with the trust and completed throughout.

The project was completed 2 weeks ahead of programme. Further works at Washwood Heath and other centres in the region are expected to continue throughout 2024 and 2025 as part of the BaS lift lifecycle works across Birmingham
