Taking Health and Safety Seriously
Just how serious do our Soljet Staff take Health and Safety?
Making sure all of our workforce return ‘Homesafe’ is our first priority every day, on every project and with every staff member. Producing Health and Safety files such as Risk Assessments, COSHH Evaluations, Method Statements, Policies etc etc might not be the most exciting part of what we do day to day but we categorise it as our most important
In August last year we analysed where we needed to improve as a business having had a Near Miss reported on site. Who was at fault? Was it the Engineer, his Supervisor, the Operations team who had prepared the RAMS prior to the project starting?
It was clear that our processes needed improving and additional expertise was required. It was at the next meeting we as a Health and Safety committee decided we wanted to achieve the newest and highest form of recognition, the ISO45001 standard.
Since that meeting, we’ve improved all areas of Health and Safety and in this blog we take a look at the 5 key areas that have made the biggest difference to our business
1 – Our Management System
We’ve worked tirelessly to achieve a robust, effective and useful online Health and Safety Management System. All of our Engineers can access the system remotely, we can share RAMS and policies in seconds with clients and updated files and documents can be updated daily ensuring our workforce and other personnel on site are as safe as possible
2 – Our Staff Training
Having this robust system in place was just the beginning, we needed to make sure that our staff had the opportunity to input into our systems. All staff members have been trained on how to use the system ensuring that the information each respective member of our team needs to stay safe is available 24/7 anywhere in the world
3 – Our Policies
A piece of paper signed by a director and stuck on a wall for all to see? Maybe but we wanted to ensure we live and breath what we agree. Out policy was agreed by all staff as they’re the ones adhering to it on a daily basis. We worked hard to simplify out methods whilst still ensuring that we had the correct processes in place to get everyone Homesafe each day
4 – Our Expertise
The help and support we received from industry experts made an enormous impact on our Health and Safety development. We meet once a month as a Health and Safety committee to discuss a range of topics with the view of constantly evolving our system and ensure that designated H&S professionals are present
5 – Our Commitment
Finally, we soon started to realise that in order to have a robust H&S system we needed to be fully committed to the future. Living and breathing the processes are important but developing the system and ensuring we’re consistently looking for new ways to keep our staff and people safe is just as important
So one year on we’ve brought out H&S management system up to date, achieved the highest form of accreditation in the ISO45001 and now place all things Health and Safety at the top of our agenda….oh and haven’t had a near miss since!
