Leading The Charge
What changes need to be made so we’re all ready for the charge?
Whether you’re looking to make a difference as an individual domestically or your company are committed to making commercial changes to their respective environments it’s hard to escape the impact that Hybrid / Electric cars are having on each and every one of us and the decision we make about our next vehicle
On a domestic level the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) announced earlier this year that all new-build homes could soon be fitted with an electric car charge point. The government made this announcement alongside a package of other promises to support electric vehicle drivers and improve the experience of charging.
So what does this mean for your home? Well depending on your electric car and your daily travel needs you’ll be needing a Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 charger installed at home. The higher the level the more power needed but the faster the charge so we’ll leave that decision to you and your car dealer.
What’s the benefit? Well apart from decreasing your carbon footprint somewhat and saving those much-needed pennies on fuel, OLEV have also created a grant for electric car owners and successful applications can receive a grant of £500 to fund your new electric car charging point in your home.
Then what about businesses? Well at Soljet we supported Kier Highways and Highways England with the installation of their first car charging points in 2018 at their new operations depot at Strensham, Worcester.
The Schneider Car Charging Point will be used to charge Highways England patrol vehicles covering the Area 9 Network in the West Midlands. Based on the success of this charging station and the associated vehicles we’re now speaking with all of our clients about the potential use of car charging points at their bases.
With a commitment to helping the environment and ensuring that the work we complete is sustainable, will you be leading the charge with us?
